The Running Guys -- Glenn and Paul

Here we are (Glenn on left, Paul on right) after your 10 K race today in Waterloo. This outing was the result of a suggestion from Paul made in October last year that we run together in a race. It was a lot of fun -- we are talking about doing it again in February 2006! GG Posted by Picasa

Reaching the Goal -- 10 Kilometres in 58:39!

The picture is from this past weekend's Oktoberfest 10 Kilometre Run in Waterloo. The whole Gibson gang was there as witnesses to watch our son, Paul, and me do something we talked about just one year ago -- a 10 K race together. 10 second after the old guy (I'm turning 53 on Tuesday) crossed the finish line, our son-in-law, Max, took this shot. Yes, it's now official. I finally met my fitness goal for 2005 of "running 10 K in under an hour". But the star of the day was Paul who did his very first 10 K in 51:16! Our friend, Ron Bonar, ran with me again and bested me with a time of 56:54. Dianne, our daughter, Rebecca, and our daughter-in-law, Heather were cheering us on. To see the full race results go to www.roadraceresults.com and click on Oktoberfest 2005 10 K "Race Results". To see the finish line video, click here (be patient). Glenn Posted by Picasa

News and Plans - October 2 to 11

We're Going to Be Grandparents?! It was a nice surprise to learn last Saturday that our daughter, Rebecca, is expecting a baby in May. We are very happy for her and Max who were married in June. She's coping with the nausea as she begins a pediatrics segment in her residency program. But the work she's doing this month has a whole new relevance!

A Busy Sunday! I'm posting this while watching a Saturday night CFL football game (Calgary and Montreal) on TV before heading to bed. Dianne is doing an evening shift at Christian Horizons. It's an early start for me tomorrow to drive to Peterborough, ON where I'll preach in the morning service and then lead their congregation through a "Dream Session" to help them develop their ministry vision for the future. Then it's back to Mississauga, ON to do a presentation to a group of Chinese church leaders before returning home at the end of the day!

Vacation Coming. Monday and Tuesday are filled with appointments and meetings on the phone. Then it's off to London where Dianne will take her mom to an appointment to an orthopedic surgeon which we hope will result in the scheduling of hip replacement surgery. We will then travel to Sudbury for the Thanksgiving Weekend with Rebecca and Max. Items on the agenda include enjoying the Ontario fall colours, talking about babies, doing some final training runs before the big race, and a nice turkey dinner and pumpkin pie. GG
