Emilie Nicole Hamel -- First Day Photo

Dianne and I have spent much of Emilie's first day with her and her parents at St. Joseph's Hospital in Sudbury. She's doing well and the plan is to come home tomorrow (Sunday). We hope to spend a few more days here before heading back to Kitchener. GG

La Famille Hamel

Here's a picture of Max and Rebecca with their newborn daughter, Emilie, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Sudbury, Ontario. We are thankful for her safe arrival and for both the prayers and best wishes of so many of our friends! GG Posted by Picasa

She's Here!

The waiting is over! Emilie Nicole Hamel, our new grand-daughter, arrived safely tonight at 7:35 PM EDST at St. Joseph's Hospital in Sudbury. She tips the scales at 7 lb. 1 oz. and is 20 inches long. According to her grandmother, she looks a lot like her mom did when she made her start. Emilie's dad, Max, and Dianne were there as part of "Team Hamel"! Grandpa is heading to the hospital as soon as he posts this, eager to meet the newest family member. GG

Waiting for Emilie

Last fall, our daughter, Rebecca, informed us that she was pregnant and that her due date would be May 10. Well, with less than 30 minutes left on the 10th of May, it looks like this baby will soon be officially overdue.

During the pregnancy, further tests were ordered and we were happy to learn, not only that some potential genetic problems were not present, but that this grandchild would be a girl. For some time now, we've known that her name will be Emilie (French spelling)!

While our Outreach Canada teammates are meeting this week in spring retreat at The Firs Conference Centre in Bellingham Washington, Dianne and I are in Sudbury with Rebecca and her husband, Max. As a part of "Team Hamel", we are all set to swing into action as soon as Emilie indicates that she's ready.

So what is a "grandfather-to-be" doing as the due date passes? Watching an NHL playoff game and blogging away. Waiting for Emilie -- we can hardly wait to welcome her into our family! GG

The Paradoxical Commandments

Yesterday, I read the following piece in "The 8th Habit" by Stephen R. Covey (page 80). I thought it was worth sharing here:

  1. People are illogical, unreasonable, and self-centered. Love them anyway.
  2. If you do good, people will accuse you of selfish ulterior motives. Do good anyway.
  3. If you are successful, you will win false friends and true enemies. Succeed anway.
  4. The good you do today will be forgotten tomorrow. Do good anyway.
  5. Honesty and frankness make you vulnerable. Be honest and frank anyway.
  6. The biggest men and women with the biggest ideas can be shot down by the smallest men and women with the smallest minds. Think big anyway.
  7. People favor underdogs but follow only top dogs. Fight for a few underdogs anyway.
  8. What you spend years building may be destroyed overnight. Build anyway.
  9. People really need help but may attack you if you do help them. Help people anway.
  10. Give the world the best you have and you’ll get kicked in the teeth. Give the world the best you have anyway.

That's what I want to do! GG
